Delphi has developed a concept heavy commercial vehicle designed to meet future, more stringent emissions targets.
The second-generation Tech Truck, that will be displayed at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in September, also features enhanced connectivity. The Tier One has improved its 2,700bar common rail technology to produce a more efficient combustion process in heavy duty applications.
The system, which includes a high-pressure direct injection natural gas injector, is intended to meet legislation on emissions and fuel efficiency beyond Euro VI. But as well as seeking to reduce emissions, Delphi's engineers have also developed improved infotainment and connectivity systems. The DEA600 integrated display screen combines radio functions with the latest connectivity options and internet access, using an Android operating system.
Jeff Owens, Delphi's chief technology officer said: "The latest vision and radar sensors, fuel injection systems and infotainment technologies featured on the Tech Truck will help commercial vehicle OEMs develop green vehicles while helping drivers stay safe and remain connected.”
The supplier also developed Ethernet technology. With penetration in new vehicles expected to grow from 1% this year to 40% in 2020, the high-speed network will become increasingly important.
Delphi's Ethernet enables vehicle systems to communicate and share information at a speed of 100Mbit/sec, and is integrated into the vehicle wiring architecture, toimprove packaging.
