| Automotive Industry in Jakarta Down by 3.20 Percent |

Central Statistics Bureau (BPS) of Jakarta chapter has reported that the production of both large and medium manufacturing industries in Jakarta during the third quarter of 2010 was down by 0.61 percent, compared to that of the second quarter of 2010. The decline is below the average national growth of 2.02 percent.
One of the manufacturing sectors contributing to the decline is the motor vehicle industry which experienced decrease by 3.20 percent. Jakarta BPS Head Agus Suherman said manufacturing was a sector that had a considerable contribution to the city`s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP), reaching 15.81 percent. In terms of contribution to the GDP, the manufacturing sector was ranked third following the financial sector, leasing sector and banking services and trade sectors. Manufacturing industries are scattered in five municipal areas of Jakarta (North Jakarta, East Jakarta, West Jakarta, Central Jakarta and South Jakarta), with the largest in East and North Jakarta. Agus explained, the types of industries which experienced increase in the third quarter compared to the second quarter of 2010 were electrical machinery and equipment industry which rose 5.03 percent; the industry of publishing, printing and reproduction of recording media by 3.93 percent, food-beverage industry 2.66 percent; the industry of chemical and goods made from chemicals up by 2.38 percent; garment industry by 1.88 percent; furniture industry by 0.96 percent; the industry of non-metal mineral products by 0.76 percent; and the industry of transportation equipment other than two wheeled or more motor vehicles up by 0.02 percent. While the types of industries experiencing decline in the same period are the manufacturing industry of rubber and rubber goods and plastics down by 5.35 percent; motor vehicle manufacturing industry by 3.20 percent; the industry of paper and paper products by 2.43 percent; basic metal industry by 2.34 percent; the industry of timber and goods made from timbers by 2.31 percent; textile industry by 1.55 percent; and the industry of metal goods other than its machinery and equipment which fell by 1.33 percent.
