| Strong Escape demand drives Ford sales higher |

Through the first 10 months of the year, sales have risen about 11 percent over the same period in 2010.
Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford (NYSE: F) has sold about 1.77 million vehicles so far in 2011. In the release, company officials cited demand for fuel-efficient utility vehicles and trucks for the rise in sales. October sales of the Ford Escape rose to 19,046, up about 31 percent from the same month a year ago. So far this year, Ford has set a sales record of 206,896 Escape vehicles sold. It marks the first time the Escape has surpassed 200,000 in sales in its 11-year history. Ford is investing about $600 million to prepare Louisville Assembly Plant for production of a redesigned 2013 Escape later this year. The company also plans to add 3,100 jobs to the plant to build the Escape and a second, unannounced vehicle. “The Ford brand continues growing its market share, showing we have the vehicles and technologies people truly want and value,” Ken Czubay, Ford’s vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, said in the release. October truck sales also rose at Ford, up 8 percent versus a year ago. Sales of F-Series trucks totaled 52,511, up 7 percent in October. Those models include the Super Duty trucks produced at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville. That plans is also set to receive a $621 million investment in a new press line
