The car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki produces an assortment of vehicles ranging from small entry level cars to hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs for the Indian terrain. Now, the company has spectacularly entered the premium luxury sedan segment with a new sporty automobile, the Kizashi, in a well-executed launch event at Mumbai. While the new car marks Maruti Suzuki India’s ingression in a new segment, it also appears to be a ‘Sign of Good Times’ for the consumers who purchase the car, in reference to what the word ‘Kizashi’ signifies.

Being the manufacturer’s first launch in high-end Indian car market, the Kizashi is reportedly aimed at self-employed consumers, rich families as well as business corporate officials. With features that are ornately infused with style, sporty performance and luxuriousness, the car was exhibited at the event in two colors, namely ‘Premium Silver Metallic’ and ‘Super Black Pearl’. In addition to these hues, The Kizashi will also retail in a striking paint of ‘Snow White Pearl’.

“The Kizashi is a major step forward for Maruti Suzuki. With the launch of this luxurious sporty sedan, Maruti Suzuki is able to offer an international car to top-end customers in India. I am delighted to note that most previews by auto experts here have been positive, appreciating the The Kizashi’s stylish looks, sporty performance and luxurious feel. We are fully geared to delight customers in a segment where we have been absent so far,” elaborated Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.

The new sporty sedan is geared by the 2.4 litre DOHC J-Series engine that offers a compelling performance and is available in two variants, Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) and Manual Transmission. Maximum output of the car reaches 178 PS @ 6,500rpm and it also boasts a maximum torque of 230Nm @ 4,000rpm. These factors don’t seem to hamper the Kizashi’s fuel efficiency which is said to be of 12.53 Kmpl (CVT) and 12.45 Kmpl (6-speed MT).

The Kizashi sports a variety of top-end options that are said to be comparable to other premium luxury sedans in higher ranges. Including safety features such as 6 Air bags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and ABS with EBD, the car also comes fitted with a Projector Headlamp. The CVT variant of The Kizashi will enclose the Hill Hold Control (HHC) feature as well. Echoing the sporty DNA of Suzuki Motor Corporation, the Kizashi surfaces a daunting front grille, exclusive interiors along with the sleek and compact exteriors.

Having undergone rigorous endurance procedures for all terrains, the Kizashi is crafted with much precision to provide superlative comfort and convenience for the passengers as well as the driver. Features such as 10-way power seat for driver with 3-position memory, multi-functional steering wheel with Audio Control and Cruise Control switches, 4-way power seat for Co-driver among others in the car’s interior, only seem to be complimenting the Kizashi’s sleek exterior.

The sporty and luxurious Kizashi is manufactured at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Sagara plant in Japan. Introductory ex-showroom prices for MT and CVT versions are reported to be 17.12 lakh and Rs. 18.16 lakh respectively. Prospective buyers can now book the vehicle with an initial deposit of Rs. 50,000 at any of the Maruti Suzuki Dealers and expect it to be delivered after March 2011. The car will be shipped to India as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU).
