Global Automotive Technology :: A Complete B2B, Media Portal for Automotive Industry

The auto industry-hating tree-huggers view the Woodward Dream Cruise as the ultimate stick in the eye to environmentalists worldwide. Thousands of cars idling in bumper to bumper traffic with no particular place to go - just being there consuming barrels of oil and spewing pollutants into the air.

But as usual, they will miss a few important points. First of which is how much science the automakers have unleashed over the last few decades with little if any credit from the greenies. They will not acknowledge the following facts:

1) What sets America apart as the world's greatest nation is our huge middle class.

2) The middle class in this country developed in great part through the proliferation of affordable modes of individual and family transportation - the automobile. The cars also helped create a greenie no-no: urban sprawl. Or, as I like to think of it: affordable and safe housing, great schools and of course Wal-mart.

3) Cars and trucks and SUVs are incredibly clean today. In fact, no other industry with a potential hazardous impact on the environment as made greater improvements over the years. Which means it's time for a Dream Cruise Fun Fact from the Wisecracker.

4) Intro music for Fun Fact . . . . A 2011 Chevy Suburban - the "Devil" according to the Sierra Club - driving down Woodward Avenue gives off fewer emissions than a 1955 classic Corvette parked in a local Woodward eatery with ITS ENGINE SHUT OFF.

No way you say. Way.

Prior to emissions standards, the evaporative emissions were huge through the gas tank, fuel lines and the engine itself. That's how clean these vehicles, even the monsters, are.

So, my dear Sierra Club friends, try to get through the Dream Cruise without a mental meltdown. Sunday everything goes back to normal. Regular traffic. Regular lives.

And the MSM bashing Texas Gov Rick Perry for having the audacity to believe that global morning is a lot of hot air.
